Many artists create works in series. And this is okay. But, I have never dreamed in a series so for me, creating series of works is not a reality. My visions can be about anything going on in society at that moment. Rather it be a tragic moment in our country's history or an individual reflecting on their place in life.
At times, my works will cross from one vision to another. When I envision a portrait, there is something more that may come to me than capturing the essence of that person. In 'I am', the little girl is looking beyond or out of the picture space. She is looking into her future which she is excited about. She has the desire to please her parents and make them proud and in her thought, as small as they may be for a child, she tells herself, "I Am..."
